Once we have that information we can determine whether this ask is appropriate and, if so, what the real question is. Doing the footwork first does a great deal towards making your question digestible.
I really like your advice of asking “what is the actual end goal first”. I realized in the past that many times I was executing and I knew something needed to be done but I didn’t ask myself what was the end goal and I was not able to articulate it when asked without deep thought. So we should ask ourselves that question when planning the ask.
